Lisa Darden's Documentary

Lisa Darden has been keeping us all updated on her documentary called "For Such A Time As This." This documentary film centers around the evangelical efforts to reach out to the gay community. "The film’s goal is to build a bridge and offer hope for all. This much needed film will show that the Love of God can penetrate even the hardest of hearts and provide the catalyst that will cause all the walls to come tumbling down," says Lisa Darden. I believe that this documentary will be groundbreaking in portraying the conflicts between religion and the GLBT community. Lisa Darden also states that, "We aim to turn ignorance into understanding and transform prejudice into promise." Isn't that all we want? We should be seen as more than just a second class citizens. This documentary will become another voice for our community, so we need to do what we can to support Lisa Darden and her efforts.

Another reason to support her, is that she is also a fan of South of Nowhere. She will be using clips from Season two in her documentary. She will use clips that have to do with Spencer coming out , and having to deal with her mother's, Paula Carlin, religious views.

Here are some words from Lisa Darden on her documentary and on South of Nowhere.

"A major fund raising effort is being launched for completion funds for the film and the 2 CD Soundtrack that will accompany the documentary. Please help us bring this much needed and anticipated Documentary film to fruition and please encourage others to help.

Special thanks to The N, Tom Lynch and The cast of South of Nowhere!

And thanks to the folks who are making an effort to save a phenominal show! We need it keep it up!"

We should all be thankful that we live in a time when shows like South of Nowhere can be aired on tv. If we think times are difficult now for the gay community, think about how it was for our ancestors, or how it is for Gays and Lesbians who currently live in the Middle East. South of Nowhere is not just another tv show. It helps GLBT and questioning teens come to accept who they are, and it has also helps the families of those teens finally understand and accept them. As Lisa Darden puts it, this is a historic and spiritual journey. So come join us in this journey to not only try and save South of Nowhere, but also give a voice to our generation and the ones to come.

SpashleyU and Trevor Project

The Trevor Project
866-4-U-TREVOR

“The Trevor Helpline is the only national crisis and suicide prevention helpline for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.
The Helpline is a free and confidential service that offers hope and someone to talk to, 24/7. Trained counselors listen and understand without judgment.

There is hope, there is help.

Be proud of who you are.” – The Trevor Project Website

Why The Trevor Project?

We at SpashleyU really wanted a way to give back to the community that South of Nowhere has given a voice and visibility to. For too long there has been a serious lack of strong GLBT lead characters in shows geared towards the 16 – 21 age range. An age when we are struggling with who we are, what we like and what we will become, we need to see ourselves reflected back in the media, to know that we are not alone in the struggle to be who we are.

Just as South of Nowhere provided GLBT and questioning youth with a voice on national television through the groundbreaking characters of Spencer Carlin and Ashley Davies, The Trevor Project has been there to listen to over 100,000 voices on their hotline. We decided to pay tribute to this show, its creator, Tom Lynch and the cast and crew by giving back in its name to the community that it gave a voice to. As South of Nowhere has made a difference in our lives, we can help make a difference in others. Don’t Silence Us.

How Can You Help?

Watch for us to unveil all the details on how you can help give back to The Trevor Project and pay tribute to all the hard work and groundbreaking storylines on South of Nowhere to be announced on April 18th right here. We promise you, you don’t want to miss this. There’s even a little rumor that besides getting a warm fuzzy feeling for helping out such a worthy organization there’s even something a bit more tangible for people who donate over $5… Spashley Is Love.

Push Back

As I'm sure most people have already heard, South of Nowhere has been pushed back to the fall. Everyone is up in arms, saying this is the-N's way of punishing it's viewer and the supporters of the show who have sent in letters, postcards and compasses...

Every since the news broke I have been trying to figure out why they would do that. Why not just let the show finish it's run and quietly let it go away. Why let the fans have even more time to make noise and gain support?

Many theories have been flying around, the most popular being that the-n doesn't think that the fanbase will be able to keep up an active campaign throughout the entire wait, which is about 6 months. That the fans will finally give up and the noise will quiet down but I think the exact opposite is happening here. The-n needs us to keep up the noise.

I don't think the-n made the move to spite us for making a fuss, for trying to save our show. On the contrary, it's because of the noise we made and what they are banking on that we will continue to make that they pushed the season back. I think it was a purely financial reason. It doesn't make it any better but follow my reasoning here.

The-Sarah, the general manger of the-n, said in her post that they need the extra time to make extra content to give it a proper send off. That makes no sense considering the extra content was already planned before hand and we know it was because since the first season an employee at the-n was feeding people spoilers at the yahoo group. Is is only known as M, but it has proven time and time again that he does have real inside information.

Knowing that, the reasoning behind the push back of the second half of Season 3, couldn't be to give them more time to do these things.

Mostly because Season 3b, as it use to be called, is now being passed off as a new season, when it's not, it's been filmed and in the can since last year. Originally, we were only suppose to have a couple months break between the first and second half of Season 3. The reasons we were given was because then it would a shorter wait between Season 3 and Season 4 (A real season 4).

Then I put on my smart glasses and pondered this, what does the network have to gain by pushing the season back to almost a year since it last aired? Then I looked at the time they were talking about.... The fall, when it airs with a new season of Degrassi, their highest rated show. It would seem then that they are trying to boost the ratings, but why? By the time it airs, the cast would have moved on to other projects, seeing as more than a year will have passed since they last filmed. Then it all kinda clicked. Sweeps.

They want to raise the ratings so they can get more advertising dollars because it's not based on the show but on the time slot. Ok from a business point of view that makes sense but why not run one of the new shows that they are hyping on their site? If South wasn't delivering the numbers they wanted before why would it be different now? The biggest difference between South of Nowhere's season 3 premiere and the premiere of what they are calling Season 4 is the fans efforts to save the show. The fans going out there and getting the word out about South of Nowhere and Spashley.

The fans are now creating a buzz around this show. We, the fans, are creating more noise about this show than it's own network ever did, plus not only are we raising awareness about South of Nowhere, we're raising awareness about the-n. It's in the-n's best financial interest to push the show back. All they have to do is sit back and let us drum up the ratings for them, thereby making them more money come sweeps time. And in the end, we still don't save our show. It's also been prevented from being shopped around now because it's still under contract to the-n until it airs.

We have been put into a very difficult position because some don't want to give up the fight, accept defeat, but to keep fighting means to help line the pockets of the very network that is using us and not even considering uncancelling our show. Some think the-n will save the show if the ratings are up, but given the timeline from when it was filmed to when it will finally air again, that seems incredibly unlikely, most of the actors will have found other work. Some believe we can get another network to pick it but but it will have to be a pretty big network to entice the actors back, that is if they aren't already under contract to somewhere else.

South of Nowhere fans and Spashley fans have been put smack dab in the middle of a rock and a hard place. Only time will tell what we do from here.

Season Three A's most important Spashley scenes

1. (Epi 301) We finally got what we all wanted, an extremely long Spashley make out scene. After Ashley and Spencer finally get to really talk after Clay's death and Ashley's vacation to Europe for three months ,though her girlfriend needed her but I digress, Spencer walks up to Ashley and gives her a big kiss. Why did Spencer kiss Ashley? Because Ashley finally told Spencer what she always wanted to hear. After they make out from a long time Ashley opens her mouth and screws up the moment for every fan, by the scene end of the scene Spencer breaks up with Ashley.

2.(Epi 302) Though Ashley was just dumped, she goes to Spencer's house to asks her to go to Cabo with her. Spencer of course declines the offer because Ashley had just spent the night with Aiden (ugh). After everything Ashley has done to Spencer she still tells Spencer that she won't stop trying to get her back.

3.(Epi 304) After Ashley had her boy toy Aiden move her dresser into her new room, Ashley grabs a picture of Spencer and looks at it as though she longs to be with Spencer again.

4. (Epi 305) Ashley is at Ego waiting for Spencer so they can have their "date" and when Ashley goes to let Spencer in she sees Carmen standing nest to her. Finally, Ashley realizes that Spencer has a life, that other people are going to want her, and that Spencer is not waiting for Ashley.

5. (Epi 306) Ashley finally has a chance to have a music deal, and as Ashley is singing to Ethan Spencer is standing by listening to her. When Ashley finishes singing Spencer shows her how great she did by caressing her face and looking into her eyes. (don't we all want that kind of pat in the back)

6. (Epi 307) Spencer goes and hangs out with Patrick and accidentally walks into a very hetero date. When Spencer gets back home after turning Patrick down, Paula talks to her and they get into an argument over Patrick and Spencer being gay. This scene has to be Gabrielle Christian's greatest work on the show because of how well she acted out the emotions that we all feel when we have to have the same conversation with a friend or family member.

7. (Epi 208) Now this scene is close to every fans heart. Why? Because Spencer thanked Ashley for getting Paula to go to pride in a very special way. Spencer goes to Ashley's loft to thank her properly and calls Ashley so she can open the door for her. Ashley then opens the door to see Spencer open her trench coat and reveals to Ashley that she is naked. Spencer then walks up to Ashley and kisses her before walking into her loft and outside the frame leaving Ashley standing there with a goofy smile, but wouldn't we all react the same way.

If You Build It, They Will Come

You have got to love motivated fans. Days before the official announcement was made regarding the cancellation of The-N's number two show, South of Nowhere, there was already a website up encouraging people to save it.

It's quite extensive with a page urging fans to write to the various companies involved with creating South of Nowhere. It can be a little tricky to find the right addresses you need so here's a couple direct links to get you to the right pages: The-N, The Tom Lynch Company, Mtv and Viacom.

Write to all of these companies, write often and always remember no matter how upset you are at The-N for cancelling our favorite show, being mean, nasty or rude won't help our cause at all, it actually could hurt it.

Another huge thing that SaveSpashley has done was come up with a few neat ideas on how to gain the attention of these fine folks you're writing to. From the compass campaign to a post secrets campaign featuring "secrets" from the characters of South of Nowhere, they sure do know how to keep writing letters of support from getting boring. You can find out about all the great things planned to try and grow even more support for South of Nowhere and Spashley by checking out their campaign page.

Currently they have over 440 testimonials, but I know we can do so much better, so why don't you head on over to the testimonial page and leave your own?

We need to show that South of Nowhere and Spashley means a lot to a wide variety of people, from young to old, wealthy to poor, American and international, Spashley crosses all lines and any network would be lucky to pick it up, it already comes with a built in fanbase, we just need to show them how large it is.

Ashden killed Spashley

After it took Spencer and Ashley a whole season to get together, the writers started hinting that Aiden wanted Ashley back not even one episode into Season two. The fan base for this show is a majority of lesbians who started watching just so that they could see Spencer and Ashley get together and have a relationship. Season two of South of Nowhere disappointed many fans because they hyped Spashley so much through out season one and then they killed it by having barely any physical contact between the characters, and by having Aiden get in the middle of their relationship in season two. Spencer and Ashley had many rocky moments through out the series, and Ashden was a rocky moment for the show and Spashley. The fans want to have the chance to really see Spencer and Ashley relationship develop, so please go to www.spashley.com for more details on the show and its cancellation.
